Project for increasing timber construction receives million funding

The bioeconomy cluster Paper Province is increasing it´s effort to level up industrial wood construction. "The raw material for our future buildings is growing around us", says Maria Hollander, CEO of Paper Province.

"There are a number of different reasons to start using wood as a building material again. For instance, humans feels good in wooden houses because it is an organic material. Today, municipalities and authorities are used to working in concrete and steel.  There is too little experience base in building timber at present and it needs to be strengthened", says Gunnar Hellerström at Paper Province.

The project means that Paper Province is seriously entering a whole new area: "It is important to talk about how we achieve the climate goals through more wood constructions", says Maria Hollander.

Paper Province is situated in the region of Värmland, a region rich in forest. The growing industry for producing cross-glued wood makes it ideal for developing industrial wood constructions. Thanks to that potential a new major project started on January 2 2020, with Paper Province as project managers.

The project is called IndBygg and has been granted 16 million from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth. IndBygg represents a positive development the region of Värmland and the nearby region of Dalarna and will lead to more large buildings in wood being built in the region.
