REINA PLUS ESCP organizes a business mission to Morocco in solar energy sector

Representatives from nine organisations took part in a mission to Morocco (19-21 April) to discover first hand the concentrated solar power plants operating and under construction in this country, and to network with Moroccan companies and entities in the sector.
The visit took place as part of a conference co-organised by ESTELA (European Solar Thermal Electricity Association), MASEN (Moroccan Renewable Energy Agency), the Moroccan SOLAR CLUSTER and the European project EUROSUNMED, on 19 and 20 April in Casablanca (Morocco). At this conference delegation members were able to network and exchange experiences with representatives from Moroccan companies, organisations and institutions working in the solar energy sector, by means of presentations, round tables and B2B meetings.
Representatives from SENER, ISOLEIKA, GLUAL, HINE RENOVABLES, SUPRA SYSTEMS, IK4-TEKNIKER, TECNALIA, CIC ENERGIGUNE, SPRI and the Basque Energy Cluster actively took part in sessions and activities to learn all about MASEN’s strategy to develop solar power in Morocco, its current situation and plans for evolution in the future, and about the collaboration experience of companies like SENER with local entities, and technological and market challenges facing the deployment of solar power in the Mediterranean Basin.
Activities included B2B meetings between the European delegation members (24 entities, 10 of them Basque) and 14 organisations such as SOLEN, ALTOSOLUTIONS, CERIMME, JACOBS, UIR and GALVAMED.
The highlight of the mission was the visit on 21 April to NOOR I , situated in the Ouarzazate solar complex, which once completed will produce 150 MWe in plants with a power tower and 360 MWe in cylindrical-parabolic collector plants, developed as turnkey projects by SENER, using its own technology.
Thanks to the visit to Morocco and the contacts made with MASEN, the SOLAR CLUSTER and other local entities, REINA PLUS ESCP companies and research centres have been able to see that there are interesting collaboration opportunities when they need to test their developments in first class infrastructure that is equipped with experimentation platforms and where the sun is guaranteed as a resource.
