Ahead of the EFECS networking event that currently takes place in Brussels (05.12.-07.12.2017), the members of the Silicon Europe Alliance came to together to discuss their next activities and also to vote on a new chairmanship.

After two extremely successful years under the chairmanship of Peter Simkens (former CEO of DSP Valley, Belgium) and Isabelle Guillaume (CEO of Minalogic, France) respectively, Frank Bösenberg from Silicon Saxony (Germany) will be the chairman of the Alliance within the next year. He is accompanied by the two new vice chairmen Günther Lackner (Silicon Alps, Austria) and Georges Falessi (Pole SCS, France) that will become chairmen automatically in 2019 and 2020.

“The width of the network and the in-depth knowledge of a total of more than 2500 members makes this cluster of clusters so special”, Isabelle Guillaume pointed out during the meeting, in which also the action lines for the upcoming years have been discussed and further reinforced. Peter Simkens again emphasized the dynamics of the network that evolved from a project to a sustainable partnership enlarged today with 12 participating clusters active in innovative electronics and software technologies.

The Alliance succeeded in reaching outstanding results creating tangible benefits for the members and in particular the SMEs. This makes the Alliance a key partner for a lot of stakeholders when it comes to SME engagement, whether in innovation projects or internationalization activities. Some successful examples are the Open Innovation Day with Thales and the Silicon Europe joint booth at SEMICON Taiwan this year amongst others.

“Further increasing these benefits” is the objective claimed by George Falessi for the next years, while Günther Lackner highlighted the ambition to extend the efforts on implementing so called flagship events under the more and more recognized and acknowledged brand of Silicon Europe. The new chairman Frank Bösenberg completed the picture by proposing clear actions for the continuation of the Alliance’s efforts concerning internationalization outside Europe. These include another Silicon Europe joint booth at SEMICON Taiwan in 2018 as well as the visit of several events in Silicon Europe's target markets and regions (Taiwan, NY State USA, China, Japan, South Korea and Singapore).

Partners of the Alliance can be met during the EFECS forum in the exhibition area until Thursday at the Silicon Europe booth.
