The most important European Smart Grids trade show, the European Utility Week (EUW 2016), has been held in Barcelona from November 15th to 17th.

Ten Basque companies and research institutions that operate on different levels of the smart grids value chain have participated in the EUW 2016 event, with a shared stand of 180 m2, which was coordinated and organised by the Basque Energy Cluster under the name "Smart Grids Basque Country". The participating organisations were: Arteche, CIC energiGUNE, Iberdrola, IK4-Tekniker, Ingeteam, Merytronic, Ormazabal, Tecnalia, Zigor and ZIV.

Part of the stand was devoted to presenting the results of the Bidelek Sareak project that has deployed one of the most advanced smart grids in the world in the Basque Country, which was promoted by Iberdrola Distribución Eléctrica and the Basque Government through the Basque Energy Board (EVE). At the event they made the official presentation of the new Bidelek Sareak video featuring their power distribution modernisation achievement and how this has become an international benchmark due to its dimension, its level of innovation and as a public-private collaboration model.

The companies made presentations, both at the stand and within the official conference programme, showing the products and technologies that have been developed for the Bidelek Sareak programme to showcase their capacity and their excellent competitive position within the smart grids market.

Haritz Zubia, CTO at Ariadna Grids, made a presentation under the title: "Automatic Power Loss Detection on LV Grids" and Ibon Arechalde, EMC & Telecom Laboratory Manager at Tecnalia, made a presentation under the title: "Method to Identify The Source of Noise in PLC Communications". Eduardo Navarro, coordinator of the Bidelek Sareak Project and José Ignacio Hormaeche, Director of the Basque Energy Cluster, also made a presentation at one of the event's official hubs under the title: "Large Scale Customer Engagement in The Metropolitan Area of Bilbao".

The participation in the project of a competitive provider chain such as the Basque network, has been key to the development of innovative technologies, equipments and systems, which have responded to the demands of the project raising great international interest regarding one of the most important events in the Smart Grids sector.
