Digital economy – New Business Opportunities and Social Transformations represents the focus of this year’s edition of the Cluj Innovation Days, a regional forum organized annually by Cluj IT Cluster, which will take place during March 30th – 31st in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Managers and specialists from the IT industry, representatives from academia, businesses and public administration will join together in the process of seeking answers to questions pertaining to four directions of smart specialization: bioinformatics as key sector for advancing into the era of digital medicine, Internet of Things with applications in agriculture, smart cities as foundation for building a better quality of life, and cybersecurity to reinforce the trust into the digital world. Romanian and foreign specialists, representatives of European structures and clusters, research and innovations centers, managers and business people will be attending the event.

“Digital economy is developing at an accelerated rate in an increasing number of sectors, from transport and agriculture to medicine and creative industries. However, only 2% of European companies benefit fully from the new opportunities opened by the digital age. At the 2017 edition of Cluj Innovation Days we want to understand the implications of the digital age and digital transformation we are currently experiencing in order to identify integrated solutions for the future” declared Stelian Brad, President of Cluj IT Cluster.

The main topics for discussion of the conference include: Digital economy – the economy of trust (Cyber security, digital identity, risk management to privacy); Internet of Things with applications in agriculture; New business models in the digital transformation age; National and European regulations for digital economy; Social Media and Digital Marketing; Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Security.

“We will be talking about issues which have not been addressed within the larger Romanian society. Our purpose is to promote the main directions for smart specialization, to identify where the IT sector has a real potential to develop and in conjunction with what fields. Our argument is that excellence cannot be achieved in all areas of activity, and that translates into a strategy where one has to identify the directions which present greater chances for self-assertion. This applies equally to organizations and to individuals”, declared Andrei Kelemen, Executive Director of Cluj IT Cluster.

As an expression of the close collaboration between the Cluj IT Cluster and academia, the 2017 edition of Cluj Innovation Days will be hosted by the Babeş-Bolyai University, the largest public university in the country and one of the top in Romania.

Cluj Innovation Days represents a regional forum organized annually by Cluj IT Cluster since 2013, which aims at strengthening the IT community and facilitating interaction with business partners and the public sector. Over 500 people attended last year’s edition which was focused on the topics of Digital Medicine and Digital Government.
