The outbreak and spread of COVID-19 are having a marked effect on the suppliers of services across the agricultural sector. The sector is currently facing unprecedented circumstances caused by factors beyond the agricultural sector’s control and Copa-Cogeca is providing weekly detailed updates on the crisis. An increasing number of agricultural sectors are showing clear signs of market disruption. In these times that are difficult for all of us, European farmers and their agricultural cooperatives, together with partners in the agri-food chain, have been able to maintain a stable supply of high-quality, safe and affordable food to millions of EU citizens during the recent COVID-19 outbreak.
On April 30, 2020 at 16:00-16:30 (CET), EARSC (the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies) is organizing a second EOcafe to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors. Daniel AZEVEDO, Director Commodities, Trade and Technology at COPA COGECA will explain how they are coping with the situation and what they are doing to overcome the difficulties faced by these sectors. This will give you valuable insights to reflect on how the Earth Observation sector can help during the outbreak and beyond.
In this EOcafe we will discuss: • How the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors are being impacted by COVID? • What is being done by European actors (Copa-Cogeca, European Parliament, European Commision etc.)? • What does food security mean at this time? • How Earth Observation can help?
