Cross-border cooperation platform for sustainable construction
There is a need for more cooperation within the construction sector to meet challenges related to rising material costs, international competition, and increasing demands for digitalisation and sustainability. To address these challenges, the Arctic Construction Cluster Finland has teamed up with industry and academia players from Finland, Norway and Sweden in the project Sustainable Construction and Built Environment in Arctic Climate (SCABEAC).
The project is based on prior collaboration and knowledge-exchange between the academic partners of the different countries. For the Arctic Construction Cluster Finland, the close ties to the University of Oulu were essential in getting involved in the project, and a good example of how strong ties to academia can help clusters identify and take part in cooperation projects for sustainability.
The overall aim of the three-year Interreg Aurora project is to establish a long-term Nordic supercluster for cross-border cooperation in sustainable and built environment that can support the construction industry for the coming 10 years.
Small and medium-sized companies will be offered advice on business- and product development, financing and exports, and expertise in new materials, technologies and methods for building sustainably, attractively and cost-effectively.
At the same time, the project brings together educational institutions and industry actors, who will collaborate to develop new solutions for sustainable construction in an arctic climate, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of the entire industry while driving innovation and sustainability forward.
