The general objective of MUSSELBLOCK is to develop, in the certified mussel value chain, a safe and reliable system that guarantees the veracity and inalterability of the information associated with traceability and food safety, including the automated feeding of data collection with IoT and the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to carry out predictive analysis models.

This project will have important advances on the improvement of processes through sensorization (IoT), digitization, optimization of documentary processes and integration of the entire value chain in a digital solution based on blockchain.

MUSSELBLOCK is a strategic project in the Galician mussel value chain, coordinated from Clusaga, and in which the partner entities Perfect NumbersTriple AlphaElige Data and Consejo Regulador de la Denominacion de Origen Protegida Mexillon de Galicia., and the collaboration of the partner Tastelab.  This initiative has been financed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism through the 2022B call for the AEIs support programme.

Project objectives

  • Develop a pilot traceability solution based on blockchain that guarantees the inalterability of data in the value chain of the mussel certified by the D.O, also integrating an automatic data capture system through IoT and APIs that guarantees the veracity of the data.
  • Improve the competitiveness, global efficiency and profitability of the certified mussel value chain with a predictive analysis model, offering estimates of future volumes and yields and making it possible to anticipate harvests, purchase decisions or production planning.
  • Integrate the IoT, the blockchain platform, and predictive models, to guarantee the trust of the data throughout the value chain and facilitate the detection of quality and/or security losses.
