EU-China Research & Innovation Relations

China is a major global player in research and innovation. Chinese R&D spending has now reached 2% of GDP and China has set a target of 2.5% by 2020. China ranks first in terms of R&D staff with 2.5 million researchers. The number of Science and Engineering graduates in China is more than 1.4 million per year. China is a is rapidly closing the gap with the EU and the US in terms of number of scientific publications.
