Pimap4Sustainability is happy to present the innovation project HiPoFLaG, issued from the collaboration between Orion Laser Tech from Leuven Air Bearings NV and BLOOM lasers.
Architectural glass is a considerable market of more than 50 billion USD per year.
The processing of very large pieces used in the industry, including marking and processing of thin films like thermally reflective coatings (low-e glass) is a strong technical challenge. In the HiPoFLaG project, BLOOM Lasers and ORION Laser Tech propose to develop a new kind of laser machine for engraving and coating removal on architectural glass integrating a fiber-coupled UV laser source installed on a large-scale and high-speed processing system.
The HiPoFLaG project is targeting the industrial production of architectural glass. It is using the KETs Photonics, through the use of laser processing, and advanced manufacturing, through the use of an innovative processing tool. Switching from mechanical chemical processing to laser processing solutions for architectural glass would make it cleaner, safer and more durable. However, existing laser solutions are too slow, limited in glass sheet size and too expensive. The project is addressing this challenge with an innovative solution that can tackles all those limitations.
