The Galician Audiovisual Cluster and the Audiovisual Cluster of Aragon have joined forces to develop an innovative technological project, PLATVR: Creative Artificial Intelligence for virtual sets, which will boost the XR and Virtual Production market in Spain and the rest of the world. Financed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism through its aid to Innovative Business Groups and by European funds Next Generation EU, PLATVR represents an important advance in the optimization of resources and times in audiovisual production.
PLATVR is a collaborative strategic project between the Galician Audiovisual Cluster, the Audiovisual Cluster of Aragon, the Technological Institute of Galicia (ITG) and two prominent companies in the audiovisual sector, MAGIC FENNEC and THE MO, specialized in VFX and Virtual Production. The project addresses the need to reduce costs and optimize the creation of virtual sets, a critical activity in traditional audiovisual production that consumes considerable resources and implementation time.
Virtual sets offer a promising solution by allowing filming or broadcasting in a controlled environment and interaction with virtual objects. However, challenges remain related to optimizing the time spent on their capabilities. PLATVR aims to address this challenge, focusing on the automatic generation of images that represent scenarios adapted to the specific needs of each production.
In this sense, PLATVR proposes research into GAN generative artificial intelligence (AI) models to generate two-dimensional images based on existing designs on the market and real-world images.
Likewise, the project will focus on the application of AI techniques based on deep learning (Deep Learning) to convert selected 2D images into 3D scenarios, which will improve the immersive experience by allowing the movement of cameras on virtual sets.
Galician Audiovisual Cluster has more than 50 leading companies and entities in the Galician audiovisual sector. Its mission is to continue developing cutting-edge business projects to make Galicia a national and international benchmark in the audiovisual industry. They are based on active collaboration between all agents, seeking new routes, investing in R&D&I to go further, internationalizing their products, investing and trusting in Galician talent, enhancing their business synergies and optimizing financing channels.
Audiovisual Cluster of Aragon (Clada) is made up of 53 public and private companies and institutions that make up the Aragonese audiovisual scene, with the aim of improving its projection and recognition within and outside the community. Its mission is to energize the audiovisual ecosystem of Aragon to connect all its agents, enhance learning and collaboration and promote a more sustainable, competitive and responsible industry. CLADA wants to position itself with an innovative profile in the Spanish audiovisual scene, build a scenario that promotes the talent and capacity of companies to take advantage of the opportunities presented by new business models and technology.
Both clusters have the recognition of Grouping of Innovative Companies (AEI) by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.
With PLATVR, the Galician Audiovisual Cluster and the Audiovisual Cluster of Aragon are leading an important advance in the audiovisual sector, paving the way for more efficient and effective production in the entertainment industry. This project represents a significant milestone in the convergence of 4.0 technology and audiovisual creativity.
