Funded by the Scottish Government, SMEs in the food and drink, construction, commercial and industrial sectors can access finance up to a maximum of £100 000 (~€ 113 000) for waste-prevention measures.

Supported projects include, for example: recycling bins, material balers, crushers, shredders;  development of segregated recycling infrastructure areas; new (reliable/modern/efficient) ovens to prevent burning products; recycling packaging solutions for key materials supplied onto site; process monitoring equipment; any machinery which improves yield in the process (i.e. CNC kit which increases the number of templates cut from a piece of material); intelligent waste food weighing equipment for catering kitchens; automated monitoring systems that detect and correct manufacturing faults that result in spoilt product; intelligent stock management equipment or software that accurately predicts demand and reduces over-ordering; construction design to reduce end of life waste.

Applications must be accompanied by a technical report verifying the savings potential (cost and carbon) and payback of the proposed measure.
