Description

Entrepreneurship helps industrial transformation processes since newly established firms, called start-ups, and high-growth firms, called scale-ups, have a considerable impact on job creation and on improving the innovation and competitiveness profile of national and regional economies. To thrive, they can be supported with specific, customised expertise that can help them develop competitive advantages and benefit from global value chains. Clusters and business networks can provide such a supportive environment as they bring together the relevant actors from business, education, research, and the public sector. The clusters’ strategic role for challenging support can be in several areas, ranging from the uptake of advanced technologies, new business models, acceleration, and low-carbon and resource-efficient solutions to creativity and design, skills upgrading, talent attraction, and internationalisation.

The European Cluster Collaboration Platform, on behalf of the European Commission, organised the EU Clusters Talk “Entrepreneurship in Europe: Cluster support for start-ups and scale-ups” on 20 March, 8:30 – 9:45 CET, to discuss the importance of start-ups and scale-ups for the European economy, showcase good practices to support them through clusters, and give an outlook on further actions that are needed to foster entrepreneurship.

Speakers included:

  • Armando Melone, Policy Officer, DG GROW, European Commission
  • Anna Tórz, International Cooperation Officer, Poznan Science and Technology Park
  • Catriona Murphy, Cluster Manager, Ireland South East Financial Services
  • Raffaella Bruzzone, Chamber of Commerce Genova, Enterprise Europe Network
  • Stéphanie Schohn, Ecosystem Director, Pôle SCS
  • Dr.-Ing. Martin Rabe, Project Manager, it's OWL Clustermanagement

This event is part of regular online meetings brought to the cluster community by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform. They offer up-to-date insights into the latest industrial policies and clusters’ involvement, projects, and best practices, the latest ECCP news, and funding opportunities. The EU Clusters Talks are a space to exchange knowledge and to discuss cluster-relevant topics, which will change with every meeting.
